Uninvited Darkness

Your world can be a cold place. A place that drips gray water down crumbling concrete walls. It makes your skin tighten and hair stand on edge, responding to the turmoil and rotten things surrounding you.

Your world can be a place filled with your demons lying in wait, on the edges of your sanity. It can be a place that sobs can’t fill and where anger echos seemingly without cause, falling prey to the ringing silence that confines you.

This chilled and solitary world seems to be removed just one degree away from the “real” one, the one everyone else lives in - because your world is inconvenient to address and beyond their understanding. It’s just close enough that you can see the light they exude and enjoy from others, you can imagine their warmth and hear the faintest dance of their laughter, yet you cannot join in. You cannot feel the comforting touch of sunlight washing over your cheeks or even imagine having the need to shield your eyes from too much brightness.

You sometimes walk into this world by choice, but most times look up and find yourself there, without any warning or desire to go. You’re suddenly robbed of joy, of the passion that usually sparks you. The existence of this world is unfair and often never answers the questions you ask.

Where is the key to escape, the key to break down the translucent wall that separates your empty eyes from the light in theirs?

Again no easy answers here, but you can’t stop trying; you can’t stop searching for a way. A way out, a way back to living. I promise you; it is worth it.
